Credible Sources Video Podcast
NATIONAL UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
BRIEF:
Conceptualize, design, and animate a 30-second opener for National University Library’s upcoming video podcast series, Credible Sources. Additionally, develop the podcast’s logo and templates for matching guest/episode title cards, lower-thirds, transitional text cards, and end credits.
BACKGROUND:
The podcast has three pillars for which its discussion topics are centered around: research, communication, and collaboration. I was given a couple of reference ideas for the kind of simple style envisioned for the animation, as well as a potential idea of using a sea of megaphones to symbolically represent the difficulty of finding “credible sources” of information. Each NU faculty guest is meant to be presented during the podcast as a “credible source” for its community of students to learn from and be inspired by.

THEME VARIATIONS
Once the podcast got a few episodes under its belt, I proposed that we could incorporate some thematic animations based on the guest’s field of focus, interests, or history. A couple of examples executed were a green slime transition with “hand-drawn” animated text for a former Nickelodeon employee, and a transitional wave of health-related icons for a guest studying in the mental and behavioral health field.
STUDENT EPISODES
Since the podcast had been marketed as interviews with current faculty, I proposed the development of special animations that could be added onto the end of the opener to differentiate student and alumni episodes from the expected faculty episodes. In collaboration with the NU Library multimedia team, we settled on calling these episodes “Student Voices” and “Alumni Voices” for current and former students, respectively.
